Kolkata: Uber driver held for molesting passenger

An Uber driver was arrested by the police in Salt Lake for allegedly molesting a woman passenger on Monday night.

The accused cabbie has been identified as Santu Pramanik (28). At around 10.15 pm, the victim hopped in his cab along with her fiancee at S.N. Bose Road in JD Block after booking the car, according to preliminary investigations. On the way, her fiancee got down at Beliaghata Connector. The cab then moved towards the residence of the 27-year-old woman, who however alleged that Santu first misbehaved with her and then outraged her modesty.

She later lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar North police station. Santu was caught late on Tuesday night from EM Bypass. He has been booked under Sections 341, 354, 323 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.

On Wednesday, Santu was remanded in two weeks’ judicial custody by the Bidhannagar Court. His cab was also impounded by the police.
