A young interior designer committed suicide by hanging himself in his Tiljala home hours after killing his father-in-law and injuring his wife in Madhyamgram of North 24 Parganas. The deceased, Sumit Burman, stayed at a flat on C.N. Roy Road in Tiljala.
At around 2.30 am on Thursday, he travelled to his in-laws’ house in Shreenagar riding his two wheeler. Suman was in a drunken state. Storming the house, he got involved in an altercation with his father-in-law Anupam Das. He suddenly took out a knife and hacked him to death. When his wife Bhagyashree, alias Priyanka, tried to resist him, she also suffered deep injuries. Sumit fled from the house soon and returned home. The cops from the Madhyamgram police station rushed to the spot and rescued Bhagyashree with multiple injuries. Her father’s body was sent for post-mortem.
Bhagyashree was admitted to a hospital where she received nearly a dozen stiches on head and hands. She later lodged a complaint with the police against her husband for killing her father and injuring her. In the morning, the cops of the Madhyamgram police station visited Suman’s flat.
Breaking open the door, they, however, found him hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom. A suicide note was recovered from Suman’s flat. Suman claimed in it that his wife had sent him messages in WhatsApp asking him to visit her at her parents’ residence to kill her father with her help, according to sources.
The police, however, found some gaps in his version. Preliminary investigations revealed that Suman’s relation with his wife soured six months ago after he started suspecting her character within a year of their marriage following a six-year-long affair. Since then, Bhagyashree was staying with her father after leaving Suman’s flat.
