Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared his life experiences with the alumni of IIM Bangalore during the ongoing IIMB Leadership Summit (IIMBue) and exhorted them to be passionate about the work they do rather than “chase numbers and quantity”. Khan suggested that they be prepared to face disaster as much as they hope for success as it will help them remain steadfast in their endeavours.
Khan, who is not new to addressing an audience consisting of students, acknowledged at the onset of his keynote lecture that he developed cold feet after seeing the list of alumni but got courage from the fact that while they were all “extremely wise, their wisdom was of a different kind from lesser mortals like him” and that gave him confidence to address them.
He added he would be highlighting some basic and simple truths that the alumni may have overlooked in their quest for knowledge and give insight into how “normal mortals” would answer questions that they would answer differently.
Speaking on creativity and the ability of the mind, Khan said, “The essence of creativity is the ability to channelise imagination into expression and build from it something new and possibly ingenious.”
“Whether it is an art form or a scientific invention or discovering a new way of doing the same old thing...it begins in the mind. A mind that does not function within the framework of boundaries but constantly searches beyond them is a mind that is able to create anew,” he added.
In a lighter vein, Khan admitted that while he romanced with girls his children’s age and they did not have any inhibitions about it, it was possible because he cultivated a belief that he could love them back as beautifully as any man can, age notwithstanding.
