Pakistan’s Sindh police claimed to have killed a street criminal in Karachi’s defence housing authority who later turned out to be a student.
The young man was killed late on Friday night and on Saturday the family of the deceased rejected the police’s claims.
The maternal grandmother of the deceased claimed her grandson was a student studying in Malaysia and had only returned home for holidays and a wedding in December to spend time with family before returning to Malaysia.
The deceased, identified as Zakariya Janjua, was a resident of Lyari, known for violence and gang-wars which have forced multiple residents to migrate from the area.
His family said Janjua left the house at about 9.00 pm on Friday night to withdraw cash from the ATM and when he didn’t return for two hours they started calling his mobile which was not responding. Later in the night they saw the news on TV that he had been killed.
