Rafique Tareen, a former revenue officer, who was arrested for allegedly verifying the national identity card of slain Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour under a fake name, submitted a bail plea in court. Mansour had used the fake identity of Wali Muhammad.
Tareen’s lawyer, Naseeb Ullah Tareen, approached the central anti-corruption court and filed a bail plea. The court issued notice to the Federal Investigation Agency and adjourned the hearing till June 1.
Sources indicated that Mansour’s identity card showing him as Wali Muhammad, and a resident of Karachi, was made after paying a large bribe.
Sartaj Aziz, the Prime Minister’s adviser on foreign affairs, held a meeting with Afghan ambassador Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal and discussed the drone attack that killed Mansour, officials said.
The foreign ministry said Mr Aziz expressed serious concerns over US drone attacks.
