Melania, wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, has threatened to sue around 10 news outlets for defamation.
Speaking to CNN, Trump attorney Charles Harder said that a legal notice had been sent to Dail Mail and other outlets “for making false and defamatory statements about (Ms Trump) supposedly having been an ‘escort’ in the 1990s”.
Harder added that Politico had been put on notice as well for “defamatory statements” about its reporting on Trump’s immigration history.
The notice come three days after Daily Mail published a piece that cited a Slovenian magazine, that claimed that the New York modelling agency that once represented Ms Trump “also operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients”.
Until lawsuits are filed, however, the notices function as warnings to the accused parties to issue a correction or retraction. Inquisitr and Bipartisan Report have published retractions and full-throated apologies.
