Pakistan’s top diplomat Sartaj Aziz on Monday said that Indian supersonic interceptor missile test will disturb the balance of power in the region.
Mr Aziz, adviser to Prime Minister on foreign affairs, said that Pakistan was not oblivious to its defence and will continue to upgrade its defensive capabilities.
India on Sunday test-fired its indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile capable of destroying any incoming hostile ballistic missile from a test range off Orissa coast.
“Pakistan will definitely acquire advanced technology to improve its defence,” Mr Aziz said.
He said India was enjoying cooperation of the United States as Washington thinks a strong India is vital to contain China.
Mr Aziz said Pakistan will raise its voice at the international level against these developments.
Meanwhile, minister for defence Khawaja Mohammed Asif said Pakistan was carrying out operation against all terror networks without any discrimination.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, he said Pakistan supports Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process for durable peace in the region.
“It is our endeavour to make the process of quadrilateral coordination group successful for bringing peace in Afghanistan,” he added.
About relations with the US, the minister said these have witnessed ups and down but on the whole we have good relations with the United States. He said the Barack Obama administration had supported supply of F-16 to Pakistan but the Congress is opposing it. He pointed out that F-16 fighter jets have successfully been used in Zarb-e-Azb operation.
Mr Asif said Pakistan has made major contributions in the war on terror and denying the F-16s to Pakistan will amount to denying those contributions. He said that Pakistan will look for another source if the US did not provide the F-16s.
