Donald Trump vows strong US ties with Israel

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump on Monday vowed an unbreakable US alliance with Israel if he is elected President in November, seeking to clear up confusion over his repeated pledges

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump on Monday vowed an unbreakable US alliance with Israel if he is elected President in November, seeking to clear up confusion over his repeated pledges to remain neutral in any peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

Mr Trump’s speech to the American Israel Pu-blic Affairs Committee, a powerful pro-Israel lobbying group, was part of a daylong effort by the anti-Washington candidate to persuade establishment Republ-icans to get behind his insurgent candidacy and give up on an effort to deny him the party’s presidential nomination.

Describing Israel as ready to negotiate a peace agreement, Mr Trump said the Palesti-nians would have to be willing to accept that Israel will forever exist as a Jewish state and able to stop attacks on Israelis.

“The Palestinians must come to the table knowing that the bond between the United States and Israel is unbreakable,” he said.

Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton, a former secretary of state, attacked Mr trump, saying: “We need steady hands, not a President who says he’s neutral on Monday, pro-Israel on Tuesday and who-knows-what on Wednesday because everything’s negotiable,” she said.

Mr Trump also said he would “dismantle” the “disastrous” nuclear deal with Iran and wo-uld veto any UN-impo-sed Middle East peace agreement. “My number one priority is to dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran. I have been in business a long time. I know deal-making and let me tell you, this deal is catastrophic — for America, for Israel, and for the Middle East,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Mon-day, Mr Trump unveiled a partial list of his foreign policy advisers in an interview with the Washington Post, after saying last week that he mostly consults himself on international affa-irs. The advisory team includes terrorism exp-ert Walid Phares, energy industry executive Carter Page, internatio-nal energy lawyer Geo-rge Papadopoulos, former Pentagon inspector general Joe Schmitz, and former Army Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Mr Trump said.

He said he would soon name more people who are helping him shape his foreign policies as part of the team, led by US Senator Jeff Sessi-ons, a Republican from Alabama who endorsed Mr Trump in February. Trump’s campaign built on a lie, says ‘lier Ted’ Cruz Being degraded several times a day with the tag line “liar Ted” by Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, his runner-up Sen-ator Ted Cruz has alleged that the entire campaign of the billionaire real estate magnate is built on a lie.

“Donald’s campaign, his entire campaign is built on a lie,” Mr Cruz said. “Eve-ry time Donald gets scared, he begins lashing out. He begins attacking. He begi-ns insulting. He begins yelling.”

Mr Cruz was responding to a question about Mr Trump’s speech in which he is described as “liar Ted”. “The lie behind Donald’s campaign is that he will stand up to Washi-ngton,” he said
