A young man was arrested on Thursday night for molesting and seriously injuring a young girl in the lift of the Crystal Paradise apartments in Sushant Golf City.
The girl, 17, was hit on the head with a brick and a clay pot when she resisted the advances made by the youth in the lift. She is now under treatment at the trauma centre of the King George’s Medical University. Doctors said the girl received severe head injuries but her condition is stable.
According to the police, Shobhit Singh, 21, a B. Com second-year student lives in the same building as the victim. Shobhit allegedly used to stalk the girl but she did not respond.
On Thursday, he saw the girl entering the lift on the ground floor and followed her in and molested her. She resisted and managed to open the lift door on the second floor but as she tried to escape, the youth picked up a flower pot kept in the corridor and hit the girl with it on the head. He also picked up a brick and hit her with it.
The girl slumped on the ground and Shobhit thought she was dead. He called a guard and told him somebody had killed the girl. He then rushed to his flat and changed his bloodstained clothes.
Meanwhile, the girl was rushed to the hospital and on gaining consciousness she told her family about the incident.
The family lodged FIR, on the basis of which the police nabbed Shobhit. He has been booked for attempt to murder and sexual assault.
