Chhedilal, a resident of Ramdas locality in Nigohan on the outskirts of Lucknow, had taken years to grow his hair and develop a “Salman Khan” look. His look became so popular that people in the village started addressing him as “Salman”.
Trouble began when Chhedilal’s sister-in-law came to spend a few days in his house. The young girl was so impressed with his hairstyle that she went overboard praising him. This apparently irked Chhedilal’s wife Roshni so much that while he was asleep, she chopped off his hair.
When Chhedilal woke up and saw what his wife had done, he beat her up. The angry wife ran towards a nearby railway track to commit suicide. The villagers pulled her back seconds before the train could run over her.
When her father came to know about the whole episode, he filed a case of harassment and abetment of suicide against Chhedilal.
Police officers in Nigohan are now in a dilemma over the case.
“It appeared to be a simple case of disagreement between a couple but snowballed into domestic violence,” Nigohan sub-inspector Balvir Singh said.
We have counselled the couple and Chhedilal apologised to Roshni. She has also withdrawn her complaint against the husband and the sister-in-law has also gone back,’ Nigohan sub-inspector Balvir Singh said.
Chhedilal later told reporters, “It is not my fault if my sister-in-law appreciated my hair style.”
The world loves Salman Khan and his hairstyle. I have been humiliated for no apparent fault of mine. And yes, I am upset at the chopping of my hair — it took me years to grow them.”
