The family of a Malayali couple who were among the 62 people killed in a plane crash in Russia last month are running from pillar to post to find out if the mortal remains of their dear ones were recovered from the crash site.
Shyam Mohan and his wife K.A. Anju, both aged 27, hailing from Vengola in Perumbavoor, were on the ill-fated flight that went down in Rostov-on-Don city on March 19.
“We sent emails to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj after waiting for over a month. However, her office replied that no time frame can be given for the same. The Russian embassy officials said they could give some information only after the DNA matching tests are done on all the victims and it is a time consuming process,” Shyam’s brother-in-law K.V. Prashanth said.
The blood samples of Shyam’s parents and Anju’s mother and brother were collected for conducting DNA test the day after the crash itself. “We wanted to perform the last rites, but cannot hold functions,” he said.
