The Delhi government on Monday night hiked VAT on petrol to 27 per cent from 25 per cent, leading to a 96 paise per litre hike at pumps.
Value added tax on diesel was raised from 16.6 per cent to 18 per cent.
A pollution cess of 25 paise per litre was also levied on diesel.
Petrol will cost Rs 59.99 per litre, against Rs 59.03 earlier. Diesel will cost Rs 44.71, against Rs 44.18 earlier.
Petrol pump dealers were angry over the value added tax increase, and also hinted at launching an agitation if the government doesn’t heed to their views.
