The Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh has extended the suspension of IPS officer Amitabh Thakur for a period of 90 days with effect from April 7, 2016.
The Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh has extended the suspension of IPS officer Amitabh Thakur for a period of 90 days with effect from April 7, 2016.
The order also states that suspension will go on extending automatically till the time a departmental inquiry against him on charges of indiscipline and corruption remains pending. On Wednesday, the Union home ministry had informed the high court through an affidavit that it has quashed the officer’s previous suspension order.
The home ministry submitted affidavit in response to a petition filed by the officer challenging his suspension.
The order by the Akhilesh government was issued on March 31, 2016, and states that the officer was suspended on July 13, 2015, and a probe was ordered against him on various charges, which if proved correct may lead to termination of his services. The suspension was first extended on October 10, 2015, for a period of 180 days, which expired on April 7, 2016. In March, 2016, the matter was reviewed by the civil services board and it found that the suspension needs to be extended in view of the pending inquiries, it added.
Meanwhile, Mr Thakur told reporters that he would challenge the extension of his suspension in the court.
He said that instead of complying with the Central government order, the state government went ahead to pass an extremely bizarre order where it said his suspension will go on extending automatically till the time his departmental inquiry remains pending on various court orders.
