TMC MP from Bolpur and a former lecturer at Visva-bharati University, Anupam Hazra, was heckled, humiliated and even manhandled by his own party workers when he went to meet the vice-chancellor at the varsity campus in Bolpur on Tuesday. “I was physically assaulted, my father was pushed and my security guard is undergoing treatment in hospital,” Mr Hazra alleged. Members of the university’s worker’s committee heckled him and drove him outside the campus. Security officials and policemen rescued the MP from the attack. He later staged a protest outside the campus. President of the university’s worker’s committee Gagan Sarkar, reportedly close to TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, denied the allegations. “I do not want to react to his allegations. He does not talk sense,” he said. In June 2015, university authorities had sacked him for taking unauthorised leave. Tuesday was the third day when Mr Hazra came to demonstrate.
