A group of techies has allegedly gained access to a server belonging to a Mumbai-based online marketing company, which hosts websites of movies, music and artistes over new-age digital mediums. The company hosts popular movies like Madras Café, Housefull and several other corporate houses. According to sources in the hackers’ circle, an unknown hacker claimed to have compromised the security features in the Web server to gain access to its files and folders. The hacker had also sent screenshots of folders and coding of files to show that the company’s server was vulnerable. A socially responsible IT expert on condition of anonymity said that several Indian websites were vulnerable to attack from various parts of the world. “We had, on several occasions, informed the Union government’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), which acts upon complaints, but in some cases, private parties don’t respond, putting their clients’ content at stake. So we urge website hosting companies to increase their security features and be alert when informed about any kind of intrusion,” the expert said. Efforts to contact the Mumbai company went in vain. They were not available for comment.
