Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said here on Saturday said that the BJP-led government in New Delhi has been harping on federalism but in reality, they are compromising with federal values and ethics. Pointing out that the Central government was not releasing '1,290 crore for flood relief to Assam, Mr Gogoi told reporters that Congress ruled states have been deprived of their legitimate share. Informing that the state government has already completed the relief works, Mr Gogoi said, “We have been running from pillar to post to get our funds released but the Centre is reluctant to pay any attention to our grievances.” Regretting that the BJP government has been targeting Congress-ruled states, Mr Gogoi said, “Two elected government of Congress in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have already been toppled. Now they are targeting Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh”. Accusing the BJP of doing false propaganda, Mr Gogoi said, “The BJP spent the highest amount of money in elections, can they make it public, from where they got so much of fund to spend ”
Was it not corrupt money which has been spent by the party in the elections ” Mr Gogoi, who renewed his claim on forming the government, also rejected the possibility of any third front. “I don’t know if AGP and BPF may join hands with AIUDF and its leader Badruddin Ajmal, but we are confident on forming the government on our own strength,” said Mr Gogoi. He also clarified that he was ready to accept the verdict of the voters if it goes against him. “After all it is the people of the state who have to elect the government of their choice. We are confident that they have faith in our governance, so we can speculate that they have voted in our favour,” said Mr Gogoi, ruling out chances of a hung Assembly. Assam chief minister also announced that a direction has been given to the chief secretary and food and civil supply department to check prices of essential commodities in the state.
