The CBI on Wednesday arrested suspended chief engineer (Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway) Yadav Singh in connection with its ongoing probe into a corruption case against him.

According to sources, Mr Singh was arrested after detailed questioning regarding his business links and beneficiaries who were allegedly involved in the case. He was grilled on various aspects of the case, projects handled by him and was confronted with related documents, they added. The agency had on August 4, 2015 registered two cases against Mr Singh and his family members for alleged corruption and amassing assets disproportionate to known sources of his income.

Sources said, “Singh was evasive during examination and could not explain some new evidence presented before him by agency sleuths.”

Talking to reporters here, CBI press information officer R.K. Gaur said Mr Singh was arrested in an ongoing investigation. The income-tax department had also conducted searches at his premises in November, 2014 and recovered several incriminating documents. “The scrutiny of ITRs and other connecting records have allegedly revealed that during the period 2009-2014, the total likely savings of the family of the then chief engineer were Rs 1.70 crore (approx) whereas they were in possession of immovable property worth Rs 3.60 crore (approx),” sources said.

As part of the corruption case against Mr Singh, several top builders and politicians of the area have come under the CBI scanner following inputs about their regular interaction with the arrested chief engineer.
