In what may have far reaching impact on the insurgency scenario of Northeastern states, the ministry of home affairs has changed the surrender policy thereby putting an end to the practice of giving preferential treatment to insurgent leaders after surrender.

Disclosing that new government has reversed the “surrender policy” of the previous UPA regime, security sources told this newspaper that surrender policy of previous government had become a major cause of concern for many northeastern states.

The Manipur government had also proposed a review of the surrender policy.

In its new policy, the home ministry has also banned the practice of granting amnesty to the militant leaders and their cadres after surrender, security sources said.
