The CBI, probing Madhya Pradesh’s infamous Vyapam scam in which undeserving candidates were given admission in government-run medical colleges through unfair means, has found that the special task force (STF) constituted by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government to investigate the scandal earlier, spared some high-profile accused.

“At least 12 people, including daughters of a former minister and senior police officer, alleged beneficiaries of the scam, have been overlooked during inquiry by the STF. These people were found to have indulged in malpractices in Pre-Medical Test (PMT)-2012”, a senior CBI officer told this newspaper on Saturday.

Preliminary probe has revealed that the malpractices carried out by the alleged scam beneficiaries in PMT-2012 were “organised” in two different ways.

“Engine-bogie” technique was one of them, in which the seating arrangements in the examination hall were made in such a way that the aspiring medicos, the beneficiaries of the scam, could follow “question solvers” arranged for them in the hall. “As many as 197 such pairs appeared in the test and FIR was filed against 394 people. The arrangement was allegedly masterminded by key Vyapam scam accused and systems analyst Nitin Mahindra,” the CBI sleuth disclosed.

The CBI has launched a manhunt for a UP-based man, who is believed to have arranged “question solvers” for the purpose.
