Her father’s dreams for Rakshana M — to land a seat in a medical college — may have come true, but sadly, there are no celebrations as he is no more to witness them.
Rakshana, daughter of head constable C. Munusamy, who was stabbed to death last week by a gang of chain snatchers, got a seat in Madurai Medical College following counselling on Tuesday.
The constable was killed when he and a team of policemen went in pursuit of chain snatchers in U. Sigiripalli area. “It took place at around 5.30 that evening,” said V. Munnilakshmi, a primary school teacher and the wife of the constable.
“Rakshana was hoping to get a seat in Madras Medical College as she has many friends there,” added her mother.
Having arrived at the counselling venue with the police from Hosur, the mother and daughter looked distressed. “It is so sad to see them like this,” said Dr Kuppulakshmi, deputy director of medical education, PG and higher studies.
Though having been promised an amount of Rs 1 crore by CM J. Jayalalithaa, they are still expecting the amount. The CM also promised to bear Rakshana’s educational expenses.
