While the top central leaders of the BJP are maintaining silence on the issue of the party’s “Bihar debacle”, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, continuing his belligerent posturing, now wants the party to “fix responsibility for the massive defeat in the Bihar elections”.
Mr Sinha, in a series of tweets on Wednesday, said “those responsible for the debacle must answer what, why, where and how it all happened. They must satisfy the real stalwarts/veterans of BJP”. Through his Twitter messages on Wednesday the senior BJP leader and MP also took a dig at some of the state unit leaders for indicating that the party was planning to take action against him for “making anti-party remarks”.
In his message he said, “It is just bravado of the ill-advised to talk of action. The time is for reaction, apology, understanding and satisfaction of party godfathers.” Launching a scathing attack and holding some of the top leaders directly responsible for the Bihar debacle, he accused them of “misleading and creating a misunderstanding through misinformation out of vested interest” instead of learning lessons from the poll defeat. He praised former home secretary R.K. Singh for raising his voice against leaders and pointing out their faults. “R.K. Singh former home secretary and a proud Bihari Sher (a tough nut to crack) is right. No one has the guts (or DNA) to give us a fatkaar (sic).”
R.K. Singh had accused the leaders of the BJP state unit of “distributing and selling tickets to candidates with tainted backgrounds”. While a few senior state unit leaders see Mr Sinha’s recent remarks as a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, a section in the BJP is silent on the issue. BJP sources said a large section in the party, too, wants either Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah or the Prime Minister “to shoulder the responsibility of the Bihar poll debacle”.
It may be noted that a few senior party leaders, including some veteran leaders, like Bhola Singh and Yashwant Sinha, and even BJP patriarch L.K. Advani, had held the “party leadership responsible for the poll defeat in the Bihar Assembly”.
