Sect chief died in violence, UP’s top cop clarifies

Over 48 hours after the clashes in Mathura, the UP police on Saturday announced that the mastermind of the Mathura clashes Ram Vraksh Yadav had died in the violence.

Over 48 hours after the clashes in Mathura, the UP police on Saturday announced that the mastermind of the Mathura clashes Ram Vraksh Yadav had died in the violence.

DGP Javeed Ahmad tweeted that the body of Yadav had been identified by his associates, who had been arrested.

“We are intimating his family for the final confirmation,” the DGP said.

Earlier in the day, the DGP had said that he was not in a position to confirm or deny if Ram Vraksh Yadav was absconding or had been killed in the clashes.

“The 11 charred bodies that have been recovered from Jawahar Bagh after the incident will be sent for DNA sampling and only then can we confirm the identities of the deceased persons,” he had told reporters.

Sources in the local police had, however, confirmed that Yadav was killed in the clashes and his body was charred beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, the family members of Ram Vraksh Yadav in village Raipur Baghpur in Ghazipur district are unconcerned about his whereabouts. His two brothers, who live separately, refused to talk about the issue but other villagers said that Yadav had stopped visiting the village since the past few years and his immediate family had also shifted to Mathura two years ago. Sudama Yadav, a close friend of Ram Vraksh Yadav blamed the Samajwadi Party for the incident and accused its leaders of trying to “silence” Yadav because the party leaders were supporting Pankaj Yadav, who has been declared the heir of Jai Gurudev.

Other villagers, who did not wish to be named, said that Yadav had become mentally imbalanced and wanted everyone to believe that he was Subhash Chandra Bose and was leading a fight for freedom in the country.

Yadav had also contested the 1984 general election as the Doordarshi Party candidate from the Ghazipur parliamentary constituency. The Doordarshi Party was set up by Jai Gurudev.
