New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Thursday refused urgent hearing of a plea challenging Delhi high court order and AAP govt's notification for odd-even scheme to curb pollution in the national capital.
The top court called the petition a ‘publicity stunt’ and asserted that the scheme was aimed at curbing pollution and will continue to be in place in the city.
-"People are dying due to pollution. We are doing car-pooling to curb it and you want to challenge it,-" said Chief Justice of India TS Thakur.
The Chief Justice said that him and his colleagues were car-pooling to work as part of the trial and that everybody should co-operate to make scheme successful.
“If a judge of the Supreme Court can pool cars (with brother judges), it sends a message to the people that we have no problem,” Thakur had said earlier this week while extending support to the AAP govt’s initiative.
The Delhi government said since the implementation of the scheme, the DPCC mobile teams have recorded ambient air data from 55 locations, and the trend is that air quality is improving in central parts and other areas which are not on the borders of the national capital.
