The ground apparently cited by CGBSE to reject incorporation of some new chapters in Sanskrit syllabus for Class 9 students, recommended by state council for education research and training (SCERT), has raised many eyebrows in the academic circle in Chhattisgarh.
Graphic representation of the Sanskrit teacher in trouser and shirt, instead of his traditional attire — dhoti and kurta — featured in the new chapters suggested for incorporation in the syllabus, has reportedly been termed unacceptable by the syllabus scrutiny committee, prompting the CGBSE to recommend for their deletion, sources in the SCERT told this newspaper here on Friday.
Sources said experts hired by SCERT have conceptualised a modern look for a Sanskrit teacher sans his traditional wear, and, accordingly made a graphic representation of a Sanskrit teacher in trouser and shirt to go along with the new chapters recommended for incorporation in Sanskrit syllabus for class nine students. “But, the scrutiny committee could not digest a Sanskrit teacher in western attire. This apart, some English wo-rds have also found their way in the new chapters. The aberrations have been cited as the ground for rejection of the new chapters”, sources said.
When contacted, CGBSE chairman K.D.P. Rao declined to speak on the issue, saying, “It is an internal matter between CGBSE and SCERT.”
CGBSE makes additions, deletions of subjects recommended by SCERT before publication of text books. It is not a matter to be discussed in public”.
