Samajwadis get musical for Assembly elections

The ruling Samajwadi Party is going musical with a vengeance even though recent bickering in the party is certainly no music to the ears.

The ruling Samajwadi Party is going musical with a vengeance even though recent bickering in the party is certainly no music to the ears.

All top SP leaders, barring Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, now have special songs dedicated to themselves for the upcoming elections. These songs are getting increasingly popular among party workers and are an anthem of sorts at the party functions.

The latest to join the bandwagon is senior minister Shivpal Singh Yadav. A song written for him by Narendra Yadav says: “Mit rahe chehron se dekho malal hai, Shivpal hai, UP ke sachche lal hain”.

Another song goes thus: “Janata se kiye wade jo ,sab poore karwaye Shivpal ji; Netaji ka saath waise hi nibha rahen hai Shivpal ji”. This song draws a parallel between Lord Ram and his brother Laxman with the relationship between Mulayam Singh Yadav and younger brother Shivpal.

A line in the song says, “Jaise Ram ka saath diya karte the Laxman ji, Netaji ka saath nibha rahen hai Shivpal ji”.

The songs composed by Sachin Chauhan and sung by a local artiste, Kamaal Khan, depict Shivpal Yadav as a crisis manager and one who bails out the party in rough weather.

In 2012, for the first time, the Samajwadi Party had prepared its signature song for the elections which said: “Man se hai Mulayam, Irade loha hai” which was penned by party leader Udai Pratap Singh.

At that time, Mulayam Singh Yadav was the face of the party and was also leading the campaign.

Another song that became highly popular was, “Yeh Samajwadi jhanda” which was used extensively in the party’s 2012 campaign. Now, with Akhilesh Yadav leading the election campaign for the 2017 elections, a song for him says, “Tarraki ka shubh aarambh, pragati ka Shri Ganesh — Akhilesh, Akhilesh”. Popular singer Javed Ali gave his voice for this number to be released during the campaign. Sources said more such songs are on the way.

Earlier, political parties confined themselves to songs that were actually parodies of popular Bollywood numbers because the leaders believed that these caught the public attention and were easy to remember.

The Samajwadi Party initiated the trend of designing its own songs and the BJP followed it up with ditties like “Mera desh badal raha hai” that is now the caller tune of all its party workers.
