The family of expelled BJP leader Daya Shankar Singh on Friday filed a police complaint against BSP chief Mayawati and other party leaders for alleged objectionable remarks made against their minor daughter and other female members of the family.

The police later lodged the FIR on the basis of the complaint against Ms Mayawati, Naseemuddin Siddiqui, Ram Achal Rajbhar and Mewa Lal Gautam, as well as other BSP leaders. The FIR was filed under sections 120 B,504, 509, 506 and 153 A of the IPC.

Daya Shankar Singh’s mother Tetra Devi and wife Swati Singh reached the Hazratganj police station on Friday afternoon and submitted their complaint.

They have accused Ms Mayawati, Mr Siddiqui and others of conspiring to kill Daya Shankar Singh. The family has demanded security from the state government.

The BSP termed the charges baseless. The BJP, however, will be holding a programme in every district on Saturday called “Beti ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein” in which party leaders will submit memorandums to the governor, drawing his attention to the “harassment of daughters”.

Later, talking to reporters, Ms Swati Singh said, “The BSP men are calling me and my daughter, they are abusing her. My daughter is traumatized. They are dragging my minor daughter into this and no one is standing by us. She is being mentally harassed and has been unwell since Thursday. I have no option but to lodge a FIR because I fear for the life and security of my family now”. She further demanded to know if Ms Mayawati would take responsibility in case something happened to her daughter who is a student of class 7. “How can you punish a person multiple times for one mistake My husband has already been expelled from the party to which he devoted his entire life and now he and his family is being hounded. No one from the party has come forward to help and support the family”, she said. Swati, a former teacher in the university, said that her son, who studies in class 4, was also traumatized by the events of Thursday. Dayashankar Singh, the Uttar Pradesh politician expelled by the BJP and facing arrest for his abuse of Mayawati, has been absconding after a case was registered against him on Wednesday night. Swati said that she had not heard from her husband and was neither aware of his whereabouts. “The police have been frequenting our house and terrorizing the children”, she said.
