The woman reportedly suffered burn injuries on her face and shoulders

: A Russian woman was attacked by a man who allegedly threw acid at her in Varanasi’s Lanka area on Thursday night. The victim, Darya Yurieva Prokina, is said to be in a critical condition after suffering burn injuries on her face and shoulders. Darya was admitted to trauma centre at the Banaras Hindu University.
The accused is said to be the son of the woman's landlord, where she had been staying as a paying guest for last few days. According to reports, Darya came to Varanasi four months ago. She rented a place in Lanka area and became friends with house owners' son Siddharth Srivastava. On Thursday night when she was fast asleep on the terrace of the house, someone threw the acid at her.
According to the local police, Siddharth and Darya were in a relationship. The decision of Darya palnning to return home led to some argument between the two which is seen as a probable reason for the attack.
