Rumours had allegedly made rounds in rural Chhattisgarh that money was being distributed at chief minister Raman Singh’s bungalow at his weekly jan darshan (public appearance) programme held every Thursday to address people’s grievances.
Staff in the chief minister’s office (CMO) got wind of it when they noticed a sudden surge of crowd at his jan darshan programme on Thursday, forcing law enforcing authorities to deploy additional forces to take the situation under control, sources in the chief minister’s office told this newspaper on Friday.
Apparently judging the situation, the chief minister ordered a probe to trace out the alleged rumour mongers.“Whosoever is behind spreading such rumours will be brought to book soon. We want to make it clear that there is absolutely no provision of distribution of cash at the Jan Darshan programme. An official procedure is needed to be followed for release of financial assistance to the needy,” in-charge of the programme Sanjeev Buxi told reporters.
Sources in the CMO revealed that Mr Singh was so upset over the development that he immediately summoned senior officers to take stock of the situation and ascertain the reason behind the unusual development.
