Rename Mathura park after cops who died: BJP

Demanding that Mathura’s Jawahar Park be named after policemen, SP Mukul Dwivedi and SI Santosh Yadav, who were killed by encroachers during an eviction drive at the park, the BJP on Thursday asserted that the issue along with ruling SP’s “goondaraj” in UP would also be discussed during its national executive. BJP’s two-day long national meet is scheduled in Allahabad on June 12 and 13.
“The goondaraj in the state is an issue for us. It will be part of discussions at the national executive meeting,” said the party’s national secretary Shrikant Sharma. The crumbling law and order situation under Akhilesh Yadav government will be one of the main poll planks of the BJP for the Assembly elections scheduled in 2017.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to highlight the deteriorating law and order situation along with the Mathura violence, in which 29 people died, during his rally in Allahabad on June 13.
Mr Sharma also said he has written a letter to the state chief minister demanding that the park be named after the unlucky cops and there should be a CBI probe into the incident. He alleged “direct failure” of the chief minister as despite prior intelligence warnings of the presence of heavy arms and ammunition with the encroachers, an unprepared police team was sent to the park under instructions that it should not use force against them.
