Rahul wants to turn Amethi into agri hub

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday laid the foundation stone of a mega food park in his constituency Amethi.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday laid the foundation stone of a mega food park in his constituency Amethi. This is the first and the only service of its kind to be launched in Uttar Pradesh and the project will spread over 72 acres and is estimated to cost around '200 crores. The mega food park, which is being set up in Jagdishpur, will have world-class infrastructure for food processing, coupled with backward and forward linkages for the entire food processing value chain. It will implement best practices in post-harvest management. The Shaktiman Mega Food Park is being set up by Aditya Birla Nuvo in Jagdishpur through Indo Gulf Fertilisers which is one of its business arms. Addressing the function after laying the foundation stone of the project, Mr Gandhi said that this would benefit over 40,000 farmers and help Jagdishpur regain its lost glory of being an industrial hub. “We plan to develop this place not only as an industrial hub but also as an agricultural hub,” he said. Terming Amethi as his family, Mr Gandhi said that he was happy to welcome the Birla group into his family. “This project will benefit everyone — the youth will get employment, the farmers will get good returns for their produce and ancillary units will improve the economy of the region,” he said. Mr Gandhi said that he would soon lay the foundation of a paper mill in Jagdishpur that would give further impetus to the region.
