Rahul Gandhi: PM aiding those who funded campaign

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is more concerned about repaying the debts of businessmen, who “funded” his Lok Sabha campaign, than waiving off the debts of farmers.
Mr Gandhi, addressing a meeting during his ongoing Kisan Yatra in Jaunpur, said the BJP is not concerned about the plight of farmers who are suffering for the past two years due to the inclement weather conditions.
He promised that if the Congress is voted to power in UP, he would ensure that the loans of farmers are waived off. Taking a dig at Mr Modi’s “promise”, he asked the people if each of them got Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts.
“Mr Modi promised to bring back black money and give each one of you Rs 15 lakh, but actually he is wearing suits that cost Rs 15 lakh,” he said.
For the first time during his yatra, Mr Gandhi attacked the Samajwadi Party and said that there is no electricity in many districts he visited, though people are regularly getting power bills.
Mr Gandhi, accompanied by Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, said the time has come to bring the Congress back to power, and shun the politics of casteism and communalism.
Mr Gandhi will travel to Azamgarh, the constituency of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Sunday.
