Rahul Gandhi to go on UP mahayatra next week
With the UP Assembly el-ections appro-aching, Cong-ress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is all set to embark on a mahayatra from Deo-ria in eastern parts of the state to Delhi from Septem-ber 6.

With the UP Assembly el-ections appro-aching, Cong-ress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is all set to embark on a mahayatra from Deo-ria in eastern parts of the state to Delhi from Septem-ber 6. He will cris-cross as many as 233 Assembly constituencies in a bid to give a push to the Congress ca-mpaign for the state electi-ons for which Sheila Diks-hit has been named the chi-ef ministerial candidate.
Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad announced the programme of Mr Gandhi on Monday. “The Congress vice-president will travel through 39 districts of Uttar Pradesh covering 2,500 km in the nearly month-long exercise. The mahayatra is a programme organised aft-er the successful road show of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi earlier this month and the two yatras of state party leaders which are currently going through various districts of the state,” said Mr Azad.
The Congress leader also said that no big public mee-ting is being planned during the mahayatra in whi-ch Mr Gandhi will address small rallies as also hold road shows in towns along the way. Asked if the Cong-ress vice president would visit Ayodhya as part of the mahayatra, Mr Azad evaded a direct answer, saying, “He would visit whatever places that would come in between and not to create any controversy out of it.”
The leader, who is also in-charge of party affairs in UP, said Mr Gandhi will meet men, women, and yo-uth and discuss the various issues that they are facing.
He said in 21 districts Mr Gandhi will have “khaat sabhas (special meetings)” also while there will be road shows in numerous large towns and cities. He also claimed that Mr Gandhi’s interaction with party workers and Mrs Gandhi’s roadshows have been a success so far.
