Rahul is cheating Amethi, says Smriti Irani
Union HRD minister Smriti Irani on Sunday accused Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi of cheating the people of Amethi.

Union HRD minister Smriti Irani on Sunday accused Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi of cheating the people of Amethi.
During her visit to Amethi, Ms Irani said, “Rahul Gandhi says Amethi is like his extended family but he has failed to fulfil his responsibility towards his family. If a person cannot fulfil the responsibility towards his family, can he be expected to take on the responsibility of the country ”
Questioning the lack of development in Amethi, Ms Irani said that she had only seen foundation stones of various projects but none of them had even started.
“It has been one-and-a-half years since I have been coming here regularly and nothing has changed in this period. In fact, nothing has happened since he became MP,” she said.
She said that she had spoken to the district magistrate about the lack of development in Amethi and would even talk to the chief minister if needed.
“I have been told about the land grabbed by Samrat Bicycles Limited and I assure you that either the factory will be set up soon and one member from each family will be given employment or the land will be given back to the farmers,” she said.
The land concerned was registered by Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust a few months back but later a court ordered that the land be returned to Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC).
The minister pointed out that “skill development” was the need of the hour and lamented that the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology had failed to address the issues of the youth of Amethi. She also lashed out at the “inability” of the RGIIT to benefit the local youth through skill development programmes.
She announced that she would talk to the Union minister for skill development, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and make sure that every girl and boy in the 980 villages in the district have their skills developed within the next one year.
