The two students who raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the Ambedkar University Fri-day have been evicted from the university guesthouse.
Ram Kumar Nirmal, one of the two students, told reporters on Saturday that after they were released from police detention, they returned to the university guesthouse to find that they would not be allowed to stay in the guesthouse as a punishment of sorts.
“I am being harassed in a miner that is similar to what Rohith Vemula faced in Hyderabad. When I first voiced my dissent, I was evicted from the Siddhartha boys hostel and I had even deposited '200 for two days’ stay at the guesthouse; now I have been thrown out from here too,” he said. Ram Karan Nirmal and Amrendra Kumar Arya found themselves surrounded by security personnel as soon as they started raising slogans during the Prime Minister’s address at the convocation on Friday.
The two students were booked under Section 151 (disturbance of public peace) of the IPC and sent to preventive custody. After a few hours, the police released them on a personal bond. “They shut our mouths and dragged us away,” Mr Arya said.
