Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday slammed the Centre once again for introducing GST “hurriedly” and alleged that they had threatened the state that if it did not go for the ordinance by June 19, the treasury would stop working.

She also hit out at the Narendra Modi government of trying to “privatise” national carrier Air India.

“We were in favour of GST. But, they have changed many things. Starting from medicine, they have imposed tax. We have requested them not to implement it in a hurried manner. But they hardly paid any heed. They told us to go for ordinance by June 19 or else threatened that the treasury would stop working. It is like putting the gun on the shoulders and ready to fire,” she said at a public meeting in Burdwan.

Ms Banerjee made it clear that she would continue to raise her voice for the people and could not be intimidated by agencies like the CBI and the income tax department.

Ms Banerjee had  termed the GST rollout as an epic bluder, and announced her TMC would not attend the rollout programme.
