New Delhi: Labelling former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and former Union minister K.C. Venugopal as Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s “friends,” the BJP on Monday seized on the registration of a case against both the Congress leaders on a complaint of sexual misconduct filed by Solar scam accused Saritha S. Nair and said the Congress president should now stop mocking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” scheme.

Reacting on the registration of cases against its leaders, the Congress said it will not defend or protect anybody and the law should take its due course.

The BJP’s national spokesperson and M.P, Meenakshi Lekhi said that Mr Chandy and Mr Venugopal are Mr Gandhi’s “friends” and the Congress should answer questions on such a serious charge against its leaders, instead of targeting the ruling party.

Targeting Mr Gandhi’s attack on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme, Ms Lekhi said it had led to an improvement in the sex ratio in many states.

The Kerala police Crime Branch has registered cases against Mr Chandy and Mr Venugopal on a complaint of sexual misconduct filed by Ms Nair.
