Bhopal: Trouble is mounting for the BJP’s nominee for the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat with the Election Commission on Monday ordering the filing of an FIR against her for admitting her involvement in the demolition of Babri Masjid structure in 1992.

In a controversial statement on Saturday, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur had said she had climbed over the structure and helped in its demolition. “I had climbed over the structure and helped in pulling it down. The demolition was done to pave way for construction of the Ram temple there. I am proud of what I had done,” she told reporters here.

She reiterated her assertion that she scaled the structure and helped in its demolition again on Sunday, inviting a second notice from the EC on Sunday.

The issue took a new turn on Monday with the  EC ordering an  FIR against her for her controversial comment. “I will be able to give details on it after going through the order by the EC,” chief electoral officer (CEO) of MP V.L. Kanta Rao said.

Earlier, the EC had issued notice on her for a comment that her curse on slain IPS officer Hemant Karkare, martyred by terrorists during 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, led to his tragic death. She, however, later withdrew her statement and offered apology formaking such comment against the martyr.
