New Delhi: As the festival of Holi is being celebrated with great fervour across India today, prominent personalities, including political leaders and Bollywood starts extended their greeting to the nation.

The Election Commission also joined the celebrations but with a message. Election Commission is responsible for holding the elections in the country. The poll body reminded voters about the upcoming elections and urged them to “carryover the spirit of Holi” to polling booths to cast their vote.

"Carryover the spirit of Holi to the polling day to colour your finger with the indelible ink, marking your presence in #DeshKaMahatyohar! Vote is your right, Vote is your responsibility," it tweeted.

Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa also used his personal twitter handle to spread the message.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also appealed to voters to ensure a "historic turnout" for the April-May elections. The election will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19 and the results will be declared on May 23.
