Farmer attempts suicide near Yogi Adityanath's residence

The police and fire-brigade personnel had to convince the farmer for over an hour before he came down the tree.

Lucknow: Hours before the Yogi Adityanath government tabled its second budget in the UP Assembly, a farmer from Lalitpur allegedly tried to hang himself near the chief minister’s residence.

The farmer, Ram Raj, accompanied by his son, had climbed a 100-feet-tall tree near 5 Kalidas Marg, which is the official residence of Yogi Adityanath. The farmer wanted to seek Yogi’s help to waive off his loan of Rs 1.5 lakh.

The police and fire-brigade personnel had to convince the farmer for over an hour before he came down the tree.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh had approved the waiver of farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh last year but Ram Raj apparently did not benefit from the scheme.

Officials, however, have assured him of all possible help. “If they do not help, I will come again and commit suicide here”, he told reporters.
