Lucknow: For ministers in Uttar Pradesh, it will be a throwback to their school days.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to introduce a system of biometric attendance for all ministers as well as government employees.

A proposal to this effect is being sent for cabinet approval and the system is likely to be in place in the next two months.

The biometric attendance system is being introduced to discipline the ministers who are not sticking to office timings.

“We have been receiving complaints that ministers stay away from their offices and prefer to work from home. The chief minister wants them to stick to the schedule and remain present in office at the given time,” said senior official.

Most ministers travel extensively and remain away from office for days on end.

Sources said that if the ministers are out of station, they will have to submit the travel details in future.

Moreover, the installation of the biometric system will also give an idea to the chief minister about how much time a minister devotes to official work.
