Bhopal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the BJP of stealing the elected government of his party in Madhya Pradesh in March 2020.

Addressing an election rally in Satna under the Vindhya region, Gandhi said the Congress government led by Kamal Nath was duly elected by the people in the 2018 Assembly elections, but the BJP brought down the government by purchasing Congress MLAs to form its own government in the state.

The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government is not elected by the people, he said. The fall of the Kamal Nath government paved the way for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to return to power in the state for the fourth time.

Gandhi reiterated his pledge to conduct a caste census in Madhya Pradesh if Congress was voted to power in the November 17 Assembly elections.

He said that the caste census would ensure inclusive growth of all the categories of people in the country. Gandhi accused Modi of being remote-controlled by industrialist Adani.

His accusations come a few days after Modi alleged that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, like the former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, is being remote-controlled by the Congress high command.

Gandhi said that the farmers in the state have been deprived of the right remunerative prices for their produce. This has led to the suicidal deaths of many farmers in the state during the 18-year rule of BJP, he said.
