Centre's move on Article 370 heats up Bihar politics

The party had earlier also staged a walkout during the Triple Talaq Bill which had helped the government get the Bill passed in the Upper House.

Patna: The union government’s move to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir has heated up the political temperature in Bihar.

JD(U) which is a key ally of the BJP in Bihar criticised the move and called it “a black day” in the constitutional history. Speaking to reporters on the issue senior party leader and minister Shyam Rajak said that, “We oppose the move to revoke Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP is carrying out RSS agenda and people will remember it as a black day in the constitutional history”.

JD(U) has opposed the resolution seeking abrogation of Article 370 in both Houses of Parliament. JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh while protesting against the government’s move to abrogate Jammu and Kashmir’s “special status” in the Lok Sabha said that his party cannot become part of the resolution and walked out of the House.

The party had earlier also staged a walkout during the Triple Talaq Bill which had helped the government get the Bill passed in the Upper House. The JD(U) has six members in the Rajya Sabha and sixteen members in the Lok Sabha.

JD(U) insiders said that it would have been better if the Centre discussed the issue with political parties in Jammu and Kashmir before taking any decision.
