Lucknow: The Akhilesh Yadav government had paid a Rs 21.15 lakh fee to senior lawyers of the Supreme Court to save tainted Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh from a CBI probe into money laundering cases.

An RTI query filed by activist Nutan Thakur revealed that the previous government engaged four senior lawyers in the Supreme Court to oppose the Allahabad high court order for a CBI inquiry against Yadav Singh.

The RTI response said Kapil Sibal was given Rs 8.80 lakh, Harish Salve Rs 5 lakh, Rakesh Dwivedi Rs 4.05 lakh and Dinesh Dwivedi Rs 3.30 lakh to contest the case.

Yadav Singh was arrested by the CBI in February last year for allegedly abusing his official position in awarding contracts and causing loss to the government exchequer.
