New Delhi: Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh may face action for campaigning for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After the Election Commission said Kalyan Singh had violated the rules of his constitutional post, President Ram Nath Kovind has sent file to the government for “necessary action”.

President forwarded the letter to the Home Ministry after returning from an international visit.

Kalyan Singh said, “We're BJP workers and want BJP to emerge victorious. We want that once again Modi ji should become PM on 23rd May."

Last month, Kalyan Singh had called for PM Modi's re-election "for the sake of the country".

Singh is a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and was in power in the state when the 16th century Babri mosque was demolished in December 1992.

He had quit the BJP in 1999 and returned in 2004. In 2014, soon after the BJP came to power, Kalyan Singh was appointed Governor.
