New Delhi: The Congress said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview on the first day of the new year was “much ado about nothing” and was “bereft of reality”.

The BJP, on the other hand, maintained that the Prime Minister has completely demolished the “motivated” agenda of Opposition parties with his comprehensive interview.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “We expected that at least in 2019, you will express regret about the blunders of policy you have omitted, but you have only peddled lies and that is unfortunate”.

The interview was “mu-ch ado about nothing”, Mr Surjewala said adding: “The summary of Modiji’s ‘monologue’ interview is  ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘mine’, ‘myself’. The country is suffering your ‘I’s and ‘lies’.”

There are only 100 days left of your government and your reverse counting has begun, he said.

The Congress spokesperson listed 10 promises wh-ich the Prime Minister ha-d made and asked whether they have been fulfilled.

Mr Surjewala said the interview was bereft of ground reality. “Jumlas galore. Modiji’s interview looks like a parody! The nation wants to know why you continue to justify the demonetisation scam,” he said.

He named demonetisation, GST, bank frauds, black money, the reception of `15 lakh in every bank account, Rafale corruption, price rise, farm distress, cleaning of Ganga, making of 100 smart cities as the promises made by Mr Modi.

“The nation’s security has been compromised. Civilians have lost their lives to terrorism and Ma-oist violence. The nation wants to know why,” he said.

The BJP hit back at the Congress, saying it was not surprising that it was “desperately working ove-rtime” to negate the positive message of the Prime Minister’s comments.

“It is a comprehensive, detailed and candid interview in which the PM has spoken on a wide range of issues that have been in the media space for some time. This interview completely demolishes the motivated agenda of opposition parties and vested interests that seek to malign the sterling performance of his government,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said.
