The Oshiwara police is all set to serve notices to comedian Kapil Sharma and Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, seeking their explanation on allegations contained in an FIR registered against them by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday night.

The FIR is in connection with unauthorised alterations carried out in their Goregaon flats.

Police officials said that through these notices, they will ask Mr Sharma and Mr Khan to give their explanation for charges leveled against them. Following which, the statements of the duo will be recorded, informed a senior official from Oshiwara police station.

However, the officials confirmed that no arrests would be made in the case immediately. According to officials, the 16-floor building in DHL Enclave, Oshiwara, Goregaon, has Sharma staying on the ninth floor and Mr Khan on the fifth floor. The duo, along with four others, got some interiors-related construction work done without taking the requisite permission from the BMC.

On Monday, a south ward official approached Oshiwara police station to file a complaint in the case. BMC officials had accused Mr Sharma of carrying out unauthorised structural changes inside his apartment located in Goregaon village. Meanwhile, officials from the forest department had visited Mr Sharma’s bungalow in Versova too on Monday. Following complaints by city-based activists that Mr Sharma’s bungalow had led to several mangroves being damaged, it has come to light that several other houses on the same street have also encroached upon mangroves in their backyard.
