Police dog killed, cops suspended

The action against the cops was taken following a departmental inquiry. Police sources said, “They have been suspended for negligence.” Gulabo was crushed by a speeding truck in Rohtas after her handlers had untied her and left her on her own. This is the first time that the Bihar police has taken action against cops after a dog of the department was killed. Gulabo held the rank of sub-inspector and was a highly-trained dogs. A police official said, “Dog squads play a very vital role in solving cases and even in other security matters.” The police has been using such sniffer dogs in important political events in Bihar and is even considering raising the number to 200 from the existing 62. Gulabo was bought to Bihar after her training in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The incident, the police said, had occurred on February 8 in Rohtas district of the state.
