PM rally in West Bengal today, Amit Shah to follow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address first election rally in Bengal on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address first election rally in Bengal on Sunday. BJP national president Amit Shah will campaign for party candidates on March 29 and Union home minister and senior party leader Rajnath Singh on March 31. “PM Modi will address a rally in Kharagpur, seeking votes for state BJP president Dilip Ghosh,” a BJP functionary said. Mr Modi is likely to address a similar rally in Asansol on April 8 and two more rallies in Siliguri and Madarihat in North Bengal on April 14.

“We also want Modiji to hold two rallies in Kolkata and Krishnanagar on April 17 and two more rallies in Barrackpore and Basirhat on April 22. However, we are yet to get a confirmation from the PMO,” a senior BJP leader said.

On Tuesday, BJP president Shah will address two election rallies in West Midnapore’s Nayagram and Purulia’s Rahunathpur after attending a “Meet the Press” event in Kolkata.

Similarly, the Union home minister will hold two election rallies in Bandwan and Purulia Para on March 31.

However, all eyes will be on Mr Modi’s rally on Sunday and whether he slams the Banerjee government with the Narada sting operation incident.

It may be recalled that before 2014 Lok Sabha election, Mr Modi had lambasted the ruling Trinamul Congress with the Saradha issue and had vowed to take action against the culprits. However, despite a few arrests, including former state transport minister Madan Mitra, not much headway was made into the case. With the Opposition’s allegations that the BJP and the TMC have entered into a tacit understanding lately for mutual benefits, it will be interesting to see how Mr Modi targets the ruling party in Bengal from his first election rally.
