PM Modi to launch mega BJP campaign August 9

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on August 9 launch a campaign Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani to mark 70 years of India’s Independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on August 9 launch a campaign Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani to mark 70 years of India’s Independence. Around 75 Union ministers will visit places associated with the Independence struggle across the country to spread the message of patriotism.

Union information and broadcasting minister M. Venkaiah on Tuesday stated that the campaign was aimed at acquainting the young generation with the sacrifices made by freedom fighters during India’s Independence struggle. “It is the 75th year of Quit India movement. Central ministers and important leaders would visit birthplaces of national icons and places of historical importance related to India’s Independence movement such as Jallianwala Bagh, Chauri Chaura, Cellular Jail, Sabarmati Ashram, Dandi etc. Around 150 such places had been identified such that each state would be visited by at least two Central ministers,” Mr Naidu said.

“In addition, women ministers would be visiting border areas and tie Rakhi to soldiers on Raksha Bandhan Day (August 18). Kith and kin of martyrs, freedom fighters, INA heroes and ex-soldiers who had been conferred with gallantry/bravery awards shall also be felicitated. Important historic events like Quit India Day (August 9) Hyderabad Liberation Day (September 17), Goa Liberation Day (December 19) would be revisited during the celebrations.” he said.

The two-week event would showcase the plurality and diversity of India through various modes and platforms incorporating the voices and sentiments of the people.

He said the campaign is also aimed at developing the feeling of “nation first”. “The visiting ministers will highlight various initiatives of the Narendra Modi government in the last two years. Independence means from ‘swaraj’ (self-rule) to ‘suraaj’ (good governance),” Mr Naidu said.

A week-long ‘Tiranga Yatra’ to evoke feelings of nationalism and patriotism will also be undertaken from the Independence Day on 15 August, he said.

Members of parliament and state legislatures have been asked to participate in the Yatra carrying the Tricolour and visit their constituencies.

Naidu also mentioned that during the visit by Cabinet Ministers across the country, the major pro-poor initiatives in the last two years of the Government would also be highlighted and the opportunities being created for the youth would be disseminated amongst the people.

Naidu said that special programming would be broadcast by AIR and DD based on patriotic songs, video and audio clips of national icons. Social Media would be used extensively to promote the spirit of participation and position interactive campaigns.
