Despite Rajya Sabha facing several disruptions over the JNU row and Hyderabad Central University student Rohith Vemula’s suicide, as many as 12 bills are lined up for consideration and passing in both the Houses of Parliament, even as just over 10 days are left for the recess in the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, scheduled for March 16.

While the first week was a near washout especially in Rajya Sabha, the second week was somewhat quite in the Upper House, however the Lok Sabha has functioned without any major disruptions ever since the session started.

The third week of the Budget Session begins days after JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar booked in a sedition case came out on bail.

The sedition case had led to a huge controversy, with Opposition parties closing ranks to target the government in Parliament, accusing it of “suppressing” freedom of expression.

A total of 12 bills are on the agenda for the next week, including seven in the Lok Sabha and five in the Rajya Sabha that have to be taken up in four working days of the week as Monday (March 7) is a holiday on account of Shivratri.

The financial and legislative agenda to be taken up during the week in the Lok Sabha include the Enemy Property (Amendment & Validation) bill, 2016 to replace an Ordinance, the Adhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill, 2016, and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders (Amendment) bill, 2016.

The Rajya Sabha is expected to take up for consideration and passage the bureau of Indian Standards bill 2015, the Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) bill 2015 and the National Waterways bill 2016, which were approved by the Lok Sabha.

Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the government is also likely to move the Real Estate (Development & Regulation) bill for passage, which is pending in the Upper House.
